Our lab collects a comprehensive range of data, including biological, physiological, psychological, and neural measures.
Biological
As part of our studies, we may ask participants to provide a small blood sample. We collect these samples two ways:
A traditional blood draw often performed in other clinical settings where blood is collected in small tubes.
A finger prick using a small lancet where blood is collected on a special piece of filter paper.
Physiological
As part of our studies, we may ask participants to allow us to record their heart rate and blood pressure. We also may ask to monitor skin conductance and eye movement.
There are specific pieces of equipment to do these things, such as a blood pressure cuff. These assessments are non-invasive and designed to be easy and comfortable.
Psychological
As part of our studies, participants might have to complete some brief surveys and questionnaires that help us understand thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. These questions will surround topics like mood, stress, and social interactions. We know that sharing personal experiences can feel a bit vulnerable, but rest assured, your responses will remain confidential.
Neural
At the heart of our research is neuroimaging, a cutting-edge technique that allows us to visualize brain activity in real time. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create detailed images of the brain without any radiation. We understand that the thought of being in an MRI machine can be intimidating, but the process is incredibly safe and non-invasive. Here is a video that explains the process more.
We understand that some of these processes can be a bit daunting, but we want to assure participants that our experienced team will make things as comfortable as possible. Your well-being is our top priority, and we’re here to answer any questions you may have.
